2016 Resume Must Haves
Is your 2016 new year’s resolution to find a new job position? With 2016 right around the corner, looking through and updating your resume is a must!
Take a look at our 2016 resume must haves:
1) A consistent resume format and standard font.
PDF format are highly preferred due to the fact that no one is able to make changes to your resume without your knowledge. Keep your resume writing clear and concise with no paragraphs all in the same professional font. Script fonts, “Jokerman” font, and “Impact” font should not be used in your resume.
2) Position titles.
When a recruiter or hiring manager is reading through your resume, they are looking to see what positions you have held and if they are positions that are related to the job description. Not clearly stating your job title could cause a recruiter or hiring manager to look right past your resume.
3) Link to your LinkedIn profile.
89% of recruiters have hired someone through LinkedIn according to business2community.com. Placing a direct link to your LinkedIn profile can be a benefit to your job search. Not only does your LinkedIn profile give up to date information, but it also allows you to explain your skills, share recommendations, and is an easy to read format for the hiring manager.
4) Town and state of where the company is located.
Although adding a full address is not necessary, make sure you place the town and state location of your past employers. This is especially important if there are multiple locations for the company.
5) List software skills and certifications.
Include any proficiency tests that you have taken with a score of 75% or higher.
6) Accurate dates of employment, month(s) and year(s).
Including accurate information is a must for your resume. Many companies hire background check companies that verify dates of employment, college degrees obtained, etc. If you left a position several months prior, ensure to update your resume with the correct dates prior to submitting your resume for an open position.
7) Up-to-date contact information including a professional email addresses and phone number.
For example, xoCutiePiexo@aol.com is probably not the best for applying for jobs. If a hiring manager is looking to contact you after you submit your resume, but you don’t have a phone number, you will only have one point of contact. This could be a huge opportunity that you miss out on.
(TIP: Make sure you place your current address in the proper format, you never know if your resume is being overlooked for formatting or spelling issues.)
