According to a recent study by Glassdoor.com, 57% of people consider perks and benefits to be extremely important when accepting a new position.  In the current market, top candidates often choose between 5 or 6 offers at the same time.  Here are a few perks that will differentiate you as an employer.

  • Paid maternity leave.

The United States in one of the only developed countries in the world that does not offer mandatory paid maternity leave.  Many larger employers offer paid maternity leave to attract workers who are thinking of having a family.  Some companies also offer paid paternity leave for fathers.  Facebook offers $4,000 in cash for each baby born.

PWC offers $1200 per year to assist with the payment of student loans.  According to Marketwatch.com, over 40 million Americans have student debt totaling 1.2 trillion dollars.  Student debt is a huge issue for both recent graduates and seasoned professionals.

  • Paid days off for community service.

Many employers offer paid days off for community service.  In addition to the great work done for a charity, this time off encourages good will in the community and networking among fellow volunteers. Salesforce offers employees 6 paid days off per year to volunteer.  If employees volunteer for all six days, they will receive a 1,000 donation to their favorite charity.

  • Extra time off during the holidays.

Several of our larger clients in the Pharmaceutical industry shut down their operations between Christmas and New Year’s.  This is a very important time for people to be able to spend time with family and travel.

  • Unique hours/ flextime.

Several of our clients have unique work hours and flextime.  Moving a schedule as little as 30 min later for a start time and or allowing an employee a little earlier is a very important benefit.  This could allow an employee to spend 1 hour less per day stuck in traffic, or could allow them sufficient time to drop off their children at school in the morning.
